More About Me & Global studies

Travel

Throughout my life, I have enjoyed traveling. While I haven't been all around the world yet, I have still experienced cultures far different than our's in America. When my family and I went to the Dominican Republic, many years ago, it was my first time experiencing an atmosphere that was very different than what I was used to. Most of our time in the D.R. was spent in a resort so I wasn't able to get a full experience, but while we were outside of the resort I got to see what life in another country was like and it made me want to see more of our world. I am a quarter Scottish, so going to Scotland gave me an opportunity to see and experience the country where my ancestors lived, before they came to America. On this trip I was able indulge into the culture of Scotland by eating their food and seeing their history. I hope to travel to many more countries in my life time and explore their lifestyle and history.

Global Studies mission statement

To develop in students the power to be knowledgeable and effective world citizens -- acting locally and globally -- and to foster respect for diverse people and cultures.

Why I joined Global Studies

For all of middle school, I was involved in a club who's mission was to help eradicate Polio by raising money to buy vaccines. We also helped our community by collecting food for local food pantries and collecting warm clothes for the winter months. I saw The Global Studies Program at Watkinson as a chance to continue helping communities near and far away. I also joined because I knew I would be able learn more by going to events and listening to speakers. As someone who is sometimes quiet, I know The Global Studies Program will help me become a more active member of our community.
